In the realm of health insurance, there are several options for drug and alcohol treatment. Most private and public insurance providers are willing to cover a portion of an individual’s treatment payments. This is because most healthcare providers view treatment as not only a positive benefit to the recipients mental and physical health, but also view it as a medical necessity into treating a life-threatening ailment. Furthermore, insurance coverage for treatment is held in high regard and concern as of late, seeing as how treatment rarely comes cheap; plain and simple.
However, there are often times when a prospective client feels that sense of worry when they learn that their insurance will not cover certain programs, and they do not have the money for the cash pay option. Insurance paying for treatment may not be an option for several reasons.
Sadly, usually in our case at Oregon Trail Recovery, this means the potential client doesn't have private insurance. Rather, another form of public insurance that's not willing to work with our level of care. This does NOT mean the end of our interaction with the individual in need of treatment. Just because they don't have the means or the funds to enter our program, that doesn't mean we simply give up on them. This is when we employ the practice of consultation and referrals, which helps them find the best possible treatment that works within their immediate financial scope.
Referrals typically deal with exactly what they sound like; referring out to outside providers that are willing to work with the potential client’s insurance. The ideal referral would see that they get into treatment somewhere that will be covered by their insurance. While it sounds simplistic, and maybe even odd, we find these referrals to be beneficial for our facility and the recovery community. For one, while there are other facilities in the area, a common goal brings us together professionally. That common goal is helping others. It doesn’t matter if the client gets clean at our facility or another, as long as they get clean. Secondly, we have other forms of aftercare for clients, such as our sober living program.
Our staff is more than happy to work with consultation and referrals. This aids in figuring out exactly where the best spot for the individual seeking treatment would be. Our strength in consultations comes from our firm reputation in the local Portland treatment community. They provide us with numerous sources and referrals local to the state of Oregon, as well as nationally. From our initial contact call, we are capable of gathering information on the potential client’s needs. This helps us understand which direction our consultation should go. Once these needs are understood, we then have the capability of making sure they are met. Furthermore, we set the client up for success on their journey, even if it's not in our addiction recovery programs.
As a program geared towards helping the addict and alcoholic who suffer from addiction, one of the most crucial aspects we stress to our clients is a sense of community and fellowship, and how both are important to the development of their recovery. We too immerse ourselves in a sense of community; the treatment community, as well as the 12-step based recovery community. We could not possibly tell our clients to do one thing, and then turn around and do the opposite, thinking that we are the only way to getting clean and sober. We know that not all treatment experiences are going to work for everyone, just the same as not all treatment facilities are going to work for everyone. Our main goal is to focus on our original mission statement; to promote and support the growth and wellness of all those in recovery, not just our clients.
